Targeted web traffic, would it be nice to have it go straight to your site?
Targeting web traffic to your homepage is probably the next biggest challenge especially if you’re a newbie, like me starting out your first
blog or site. After giving the finishing touches to your spanking new site, you want Google to easily find your posts so that visitors would be able to read your articles and get to know you better.
By being on Google’s front page, you would most likely be able to increase web traffic as you move along your online journey. This is easily said than done but is quite doable once you get to know how to do the entire process.
Finding keywords or key phrases goes hand in hand with good SEO techniques. That is the initial step for you to increase site traffic. I also found a couple of other basic techniques such as: “Article Marketing”, “Leverage Marketing”, getting “inbound links” and lastly, one which you have to carefully study is “PPC”.
Article marketing is basically writing articles and then submitting it to article directories such as EzinArticles.com, GoArticles.com and other similar article directories. Just give a resource box after your article which should include your name, site description and your URL.
Leverage Marketing is basically using Feedburner.com to help syndicate feed your posts. The thing is you should have at least several posts to your site so that readers would have an idea what your site is all about. This would eventually increase web site traffic because in the long run, your posts would be available to a wide variety of readers. The more readers having access to your articles, the more website traffic you’re going to get.
Organic link building from other sites is the next method to increase web traffic. Just be careful to link only to relevant sites. I.e. sites that have relevant topics or complementary information with your site but not to link farms or Google will penalize you.
Just like article marketing, finding linking partners using DMOZ directory can help you achieve this goal. This may take a while though, because submissions need to be approved first. You can also submit your site for free to http://www.linkmetro.com. They have a free account as well as an account for advanced members.
Lastly, if you want a really fast way to target web traffic to your site, buy keywords and Keyword phrases at PPC’s (pay per click search engines) such as Yahoo! Search Marketing (formerly Overture), Google Adwords and MSN AdCenter.
I only recommend this to experienced netrepreneurs. If you know what you are doing, like setting up maximum budget, let’s say $20 to $30 per day and checking your income and expenses frequently until you ensure that your income exceeds your expenses.
You will know within just a week, a relatively a very short period of time, if you can drive tons of highly targeted traffic to your site compared to using other methods which may take a month or so before you are able to measure results.
I personally haven’t done PPC simply because I’m on a shoestring budget. The other methods like article marketing, I’m in the process of writing around 15 to 20 articles as well as adding more posts to my blog, I can manage since it will cost me just a little of my time to accomplish.
I can probably save a lot of time doing things manually by buying software that would speed up the process of site linking but most software cost around $167 or so which unfortunately, being a newbie with minimum budget, I cannot afford at this time.
There are probably other methods to get your site noticed such as commenting on other blogs and forums and adding your signature at the end for trackback. Just be judicious in doing this because you wouldn’t want to be viewed as a spammer by other blog publishers.
Other emerging trends would be using social bookmarking sites. They have the maximum amount of visitors and if the topic or article that you post is of real quality then your website will have traffic.
If website owners know these basic and simple methods to get targeted web traffic to their sites, most of the manual work in maintaining and growing their blog and readers would not be for naught. They would be rewarded with a steady stream of visitors that would convert to a huge mailing list, the lifeblood of anyone making a living online. Increasing this mailing list would help their online journey be a fruitful and profitable one.
