Make Your Site Search Engine Friendly

search engine friendly themeYes folks, you’re still viewing the same old PileCentral site, I just replaced my old theme with this new one (below). Although I liked my previous theme (the one on top), it really was time to simplify things on this site.

I’m currently streamlining this site and restructuring the layout to make navigation a bit more user as well as search engine friendly. Although there are search engine friendly themes available for sale, as usual being a cheapskate, I just go for the free wordpress themes available on the net. I base the design, layout and look & feel to the more popular sites and search engine friendly blogs I’ve been visiting lately.

I’m still looking for a nice good background pic for the header though. In the meantime, I’ll just settle for a plain cream-beige color as background. I had a bit of a problem displaying the 125×125 boxes on the right because the original code on theme that displayed the boxes lacked the proper php script tag but after a few tweaking here and there, eventually I was able to make it work.

I initially wanted a magazine type of layout because you could see a lot of posts when you land on the page but the one that I downloaded would not work locally on my pc, unlike the one I have now. I wish they had tested it exhaustively before even putting it up for download.

I also copied a few snippets of code from my previous theme like the display of posts within a similar category at the end of every article before the comment box. I find this useful when I look at other blogs especially when reading on a particular article because it more or less gives you additional information just in case the article you’re presently reading needs more expounding.

And finally I added a plugin – ‘wp-limit-posts-automatically’ that as the name implies displays posts in whatever ‘limit’ you want your article to be displayed - by number of words, letters or paragraph. It’s a nice way of previewing several posts before clicking on one that catches your fancy. Although it’s not the same as the magazine type layout, it will do for now. This also helps the search engines’ robots easily scan/read your site making indexing a lot faster and search engine friendly.
